Sonic World Adventure!

A digital sonic the hedgehog fanzine. All proceeds were donated to rainforest conservation.

Sonic World Adventure is a nod to the japanese title of Sonic Unleashed - a game in which Sonic Travels around the world.
This zine aims to celebrate places all over the world, as well as our blue blur himself. Sonic as a franchise has always had an environmental lens and a very diverse range of environments and cultural influences, even jsut within a single game.
The zine was envisoned as a chance to share our cultures, our homelands, our traditions or simply our love for a certain place - be it an area in the games or a real world place.

This zine houses art, prose, recipes and worldbuilding; including a map of Sonic's planet. All proceeds made with this zine (+1000USD) were donated to a rainforest conservation charity: AMAZON CONSERVATION.Since a year has passed, the zine is now available to the public for free.

F A Q

Q: What is a zine? How does this work?

A zine (short for magazine) is, in fandom context, a collaborative collection of artworks and/or writing for a collective theme. Contributors can apply through a form and if they are accepted they will produce a piece of art/writing/whatever it is the zine is about. Once everyone is done the zine can be released, either digitally or physically - however the moderators had planned.

Q: Will there be a zine discord server?

Yes, there will be a discord server for participants to join, which will be mandatory due to all communication being done there.

Q: Will there be physical copies of the zine?

This Project will remain 100% digital, due to lack of experienced production/shiping/finance moderation.

Q: Will there be rules regarding the state of society? (basically which canon continuity will be allowed)

We decided it would be the best if we focused mostly on the game universe for the sake of having only one continuity and lore to draw from, instead of mixing up too many things and getting overwhelmed and confused (since there are a lot of contradictions that can happen). This means in particular:
✦ Post-Reboot Archie and IDW Comics characters allowed, as long as the focus is on the places that also (probably) exist in the game universe.
✦ Humans co-exist with Sonic (think SA, SA2, 06 and Unleashed) but they primarily live on the main continents, while the anthro people live primarily on islands (as confirmed by TailsTube).
Doesn't mean either of them can travel, though. So feel free to jumble that up if you like.

Q: Can we draw inspiration from folklore and legends?

Yes, please do take inspiration from regional folklore, myths and legends!
Such are a big part of people's culture!

Q: Will there be world maps or other extra info and worldbuilding stuff?

We would love to indulge in going to town with lore and worldbuilding! The plan for the zine is to function as some sort of traveling journal. The degree to which it will be designed to look like one will be determined by how far contributors and mods are willing to go; which will be determined once production commences.Applications will feature specific slots for worldbuilders to join the team.

Q: What exactly do you mean with "regional recipe"? I can't think of anything fancy or special from where I'm from.

Our current idea is simply: the recipe you'd share with a traveler! Can be a popular recipe from where you live/grew up, or a family recipe (if willing to share it); that you feel represents your country/place best! It doesn't have to be fancy or elaborate, either.
